REVIEW: Almay Wake Up Liquid Makeup

So while I was out on a quick trip to Walgreens I came across Almay's newest foundation, Wake Up Liquid Makeup! I normally would have passed by this without a second thought, Almay isn't exactly my favorite drugstore/high-street brand, but the display caught my eye! It describes this liquid foundation as, "look radiant and well rested with energizing caffeine, instantly boosts hydration by 132%, and soft luminous finish".  132% is such a strange number but I must admit that I picked it up because that seemed so funny!

For those of you out there who have dry skin, like mine, you know that finding a drugstore foundation (or even a high-end foundation) that is hydrating can be quite frustrating! I have been doing my research on the Rimmel Wake Me Up foundation that is new to the UK and I contacted Rimmel to find out when it would be launching in the US....sadly it won't be here in the US until January 2013!!! How crazy is that??? Very disappointing but I think I have found a good replacement in this Almay Wake Up liquid foundation!

There are 6 shades in this line of foundation. VERY limited. For those of you with dark skin this foundation will probably not work for you. I chose the color 040 neutral, it was difficult to choose a color because they all look *extremely* similar. The formula is quite thick and gooey, very close to the consistency of Chanel Vitalumiere. It gives light to medium coverage, not extremely buildable due to the thick consistency. It is *SO* glowy and dewy. Not necessarily bad for individuals with dry skin because it is supposed to hydrate but this is absolutely not not NOT for oily skin. This foundation is SPF 20 and has a slight shimmer to it but nothing overwhelming. I find that this foundation applies best with the Sigma F80 flat top kabuki brush because you can really work it into the skin for a flawless look.

Overall I'm pleased with this foundation, good coverage, dewy finish, and good hydration for dry skin. Disappointed in the color range but this color works well for my skintone so I can't really complain! Even for people with dry skin you will need to set it with powder and touch it up throughout the day. I will do a video review on this foundation in the next few days if you are interested in seeing how I apply it and my feelings after I have been able to use it for longer. Don't forget to check out my YouTube channel!!

  1. I also loved this makeup but am now finding it difficult to find. Have you found a replacement for it?
